In health care, keeping clinical skills current is central to protecting patients. For nurses in Indiana this is a professional expectation tied to safe practice; for the direct-care staff who support them, a valid first-aid and CPR certificate is a condition of the job. Here is what applies to your role, and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

Nurses in Indiana are licensed and overseen by the Indiana State Board of Nursing. The state does not set a mandatory continuing-education requirement to renew an RN or LPN licence — only APRNs with prescriptive authority must complete 30 hours every two years. Even so, the Board expects nurses to maintain the knowledge and skills their practice demands.
Under the Indiana Nurse Practice Act and its standards of competent practice, a nurse must keep current with the care they provide and be able to respond appropriately in an emergency. Basic life support (BLS) is, in practice, an employer and hospital requirement rather than a licence condition — a credential most clinical roles must hold and keep valid.
Because Indiana sets no state-wide mandatory continuing-education standard for RN or LPN renewal, there is no licence-CE total for a CPR or BLS certificate to count toward; keeping those skills current remains expected and is generally driven by your employer.

Indiana goes further for direct-care staff. Assisted-living facilities must have staff certified in CPR and first aid, and direct-service workers in home- and community-based services (HCBS) programs must hold CPR certification from an approved entity on hire. This is a requirement in addition to occupational training: a recognized standalone certificate meets it, and it must be renewed to stay valid.
